Transcription Outsourcing is on the Rise

The job of a transcriptionist is to essentially take an audio file and turns it into text. When business owners have staff meetings or conferences, many of these people record their conversations for later use or to revise on what was covered in the meeting. Doctors and lawyers do this every time they meet with a client. Audio is a simple and quick way to record information, although it's a lot easier to look through a text file to find the conversion you are looking for than it is to listen to a 30-minute audio file.

There is a huge increase in people looking for a transcription outsourcing service because many transcription services offercost-effective methods that help save time and store important information easily. Transcription work is very time-consuming and a drain on company resources, but when business owners are able to outsource this work, they will have more time to focus on the core business at hand. This is a great cost-effective and time-saving technique that many businesses are now adopting.

Unfortunately, choosing a good transcription company can sometimes be tricky. When outsourcing you never want to go ultra cheap, because this will greatly affect quality. You also want to narrow down what kind of transcriptionist you need based on your company requirements. Do you need the company to have a medical and law background or do you just need someone to briefly record the important points that were covered in a meeting? When you have an idea of your requirements, then just do a simple background check on the company you plan to hire to make sure they don't have any bad reviews and can deliver exactly what you're looking for.

Reinvention Of Your Career

We all have only one life to live. Isn't it a crying shame that we spend this beautiful life sitting in dull, dreary windowless office cubicles, taking heaps of pressure and a whole lot more from pain in the neck bosses, or wasting away hours in traffic or waiting for a train. Sigh!

Recent studies show that in the United States, over 62 percent of employees hate their jobs! That's a whopping number of people, being stuck in careers they don't enjoy. It's a shame too, because today's day and age offers such a wide variety of opportunities that allow people to work on their own terms, get paid well and use their spare time to pursue enjoyable hobbies and interests. Take for example, the wonderful world of transcription .

Transcription Jobs require practitioners to simply transfer pre-recorded speech onto a text document. (Yes, that's about it really. It's that simple!) Around the world, there is a large demand for transcription company providing transcription services for business, legal and medical purposes.

Till the early 70's, transcription was a very difficult job. Secretaries had to be present on location and had to transcribe material as and when they heard it using advanced skills like shorthand. With the advent of tape recorders, dictaphones and other recording equipment, the job became much simpler. The web made the task even easier and opened up the transcription market to a whole new group of clients and transcribers.

In fact, transcription today is one of the fastest growing careers in the US, with around 14 million transcribers working around the country. Sources believe that the numbers will swell by around 3 million by 2015.

So what do you need to get into this business? A little time, sound knowledge of the language and a decent ear for the spoken word. Yup, that's about all it takes.

Transcription Jobs pay pretty well - Most companies pay by the word or line. Some pay by the hours worked. What's common between both is a good pay, and loads and loads of free time for leisurely activities. According to industry standards, it takes merely an hour to transcribe 15 minutes of audio. And with a host of technologies at your command, the job gets done pretty quickly.

Another great thing is that the job does not require you to be physically present at any specific location to perform it. You can do it in the relaxed confines of your own home. Heck, you can even do it as you travel around the world so long as you have a computer and a working internet connection.

With such a wonderful opportunity just waiting to be taken, it’s funny how such a large number of people still trudge around chained to their desks, their bosses, the rush hour traffic and the pitiful 9 to 5 existence. It's this modern day nightmare turning into a dream.

So the next time you see someone moaning about their job, be a kind person, tell them about the wonderful world of transcription.

By nature, human beings are worriers and boy, do we love to worry about the future. One of our key areas of concern is our career. Where is my career going? Could I be earning more money? Does this industry have stability?

Let’s take a look at the future of our transcription companies and as a whole the transcription industry. With the increased need for accuracy and documentation in the recent past, the transcription industry has been booming. There have been a large number of jobs and a large number of service providers making for an environment of healthy competition. However, as all economic cycles indicate, there is bound to be a change sometime soon. It’s but natural to wonder what this change would be like. There are a few factors that have already come into the picture which are influencing the transcription industry.

Voice recognition software has been developing at an increasing pace of rate. This software captures the voice of a speaker and transcribes it directly onto a computer. This practically negates the role of a transcription jobs . Although this seems like a threat, there is still a long way to go for it. In order to replace transcribers these softwares would need to be able to recognize and transcribe from a large number of accents; quite a task for a machine. More so, it would need to be familiarized with the jargon of the industries it is working in, be it medical, law and what not. Accuracy would ultimately have to be checked for by a human as, any transcriber knows, one small error could cause a lot of damage.

Outsourcing has also made its way into the transcription industry. Labour is cheaper overseas and companies are opting to outsource their transcriptional requirements. However, a lot of this labour is not skilled and is sometimes unreliable. A lot of the work that comes back has to be edited, thereby creating more job opportunities.

Despite the apparent threats, the future of the transcription industry seems to be bright. Change is inevitable, but there’s no uncertainty about the fact that transcribers are going to be required for a long time to come.

Old Versus New Trends Of Transcription

The transcription industry has been around for a long time and it has been changing with times and technology and so are the transcription companies .

Technology plays an important role in this industry and is influencing its trends. Today better equipment is enabling transcribers to deliver more accurate work at a faster speed. What used to be a long and tiring process is becoming easier as our gadgets improve. We now have better sound quality, more user friendly interfaces and the speed of the internet at our disposal. This technological advancement is helping the transcriber and the customer alike. The internet plays a key role in today’s transcription industry. No longer are files transported through mail or via floppy disks or even CDs. Today a lot of customers choose to upload a digital version of their files on the internet for the transcriber to download. This saves time, energy and resources.

Although voice recognition softwares are threatening to eradicate the transcriptionist positions , the actual need to worry about it, if at all, is a distant one. Soon these softwares may be used to aid the transcriber in his job, but they would be unlikely to take over the role of the transcriber due to their inability to check efficiency.

The increasing need for accuracy and attention to details is working in favour of efficient transcribers for their transcription jobs . Increase in outsourcing is causing a rise in the number of service providers, however quality is still king. Earlier, a relatively lower number of transcribers created something of a monopoly. Customers were forced to go to those few and had a limited choice. Due of the rise in number, transcribers are forced to deliver better quality at lower rates. In this game the customer is the winner. He gets to choose from a large variety, gets lower prices and better accuracy.

Certainly, much has changed in the transcription industry, and a lot of change is yet to come. In terms of accuracy, speed and convenience the old trends do not compare to the new ones. However, these changes are working in favour of both customer and transcriber thus making it a win-win situation.

Strategising is a powerful tool in any aspect of life, be it personal or professional, and the transcription industry is no exception. By creating a strategy you determine a goal and the route you are going to take in order to reach it. Strategising involves planning out the steps you’re going to take, dividing the time and resources you possess and making projections for the future.

Before you start, revaluate your current scenario by asking yourself a few questions. Have you set your transcription charges? How flexible you are going to be when it comes to these charges? Do you know who your potential clients/leads are? How do you plan on approaching them? Have you learnt how to bid for projects? Are you constantly updating yourself on the new information in your industry? How much work do you allot yourself for a given period of time? Do you manage to complete it? For all the questions that you don’t have an answer to, you need to get one. After you have all the answers you can start creating your winning strategy.

Direction is the first step of every strategy. Start off by deciding what you want from your transcription company or transcription jobs . Where would you like to see yourself in a given period of time? Be realistic in your aims, but at the same time don’t be afraid to think big. This is your goal. You get to decide how large it is going to be, and how hard you are going to work towards it. Once you have determined your goal, it is time to device a method to get there.

Prioritization is an integral aspect of creating a strategy. Predetermine all the tasks you have to complete. You need to decide which task deserves how much importance, and rank them in these terms. By prioritising the work you and doing them in order of importance, you can ensure that you don’t end up doing all the trivial things first and then end up with a pile of important yet overburdening work.

Sharpen your time management skills. The poetic justice of life ensures that all your competitors on the planet have the same number of hours in a day. However, how we use this time is up to us. Procrastination is a serious barrier to productivity. Being a part of human nature, we all tend to fall victim to it every now and then. However, by managing your time efficiently you can develop a powerful edge in the industry, and in life.

Consistency is the final and sometimes the toughest part of a good strategy. Your efforts towards your goals need to be steady and this requires you to start being tough with yourself. Consistency needs to become a part of who you are. Everyone needs to be flexible sometimes; however those should only be the exceptions. On regular days, delivering quality material on a regular basis should be a habit.

You’re the only person determining the success if your life. Remember, a loser is simply a good strategy away from being a winner. So device your plan now and go for the win.
